Police uncover fake military training base in Ogun, arrest three
The Ogun State Police Command yesterday said a fake military training ground has been busted and three persons suspected to be members of the operators arrested.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Illyasu, made the disclosure while parading nine other suspects, whose offences ranged from armed robbery, murder and cultism among others at the Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
Ahmed told newsmen that on November 10, operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) “received information about a syndicate that set up a training base in Adigbe area of Abeokuta, where they were giving short military training to hoodlums and presenting them as soldiers.
“Based on this information the place was stormed by FSARS led by Supl. Ayuba Peter, where three suspects were arrested,” he said.
The commissioner gave the names of the three as Timelehin Olaniyan, Pelumi Olatunde and Arowolo Gbenga, adding that items recovered from them included two jackknives, two Nigeria Navy identity cards and one tear-gas (pepper spray).
