Flood: 67 schools shut in Ji­gawa

Sixty seven pri­mary and sec­ondary schools in Ji­gawa State have been closed down fol­low­ing a flood in­ci­dent.

The chair­man of Ji­gawa State Uni­ver­sal Ba­sic Ed­u­ca­tion Board, Sal­isu Zakari told jour­nal­ists yes­ter­day that the af­fected schools were lo­cated in nine lo­cal gov­ern­ment ar­eas dev­as­tated by the flood that killed 30 lives across 501 com­mu­ni­ties.

He dis­missed the claim that over 50 per­cent of pupils were tak­ing lessons un­der trees and 20 per­cent in di­lap­i­dated struc­tures.

“Schools af­fected in ac­cor­dance to their LGAs are Auyo, 20 schools, Jahun, Kafin Hausa and Kirik­isamma, five, six and seven; Kaugama, Mal­lam Madori, Miga, Ringim and Taura, two, one, 13, five and eight. Schools were closed as a re­sult of flood that makes ac­cess to them im­pos­si­ble”
