Flood: 67 schools shut in Jigawa
Sixty seven primary and secondary schools in Jigawa State have been closed down following a flood incident.
The chairman of Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board, Salisu Zakari told journalists yesterday that the affected schools were located in nine local government areas devastated by the flood that killed 30 lives across 501 communities.
He dismissed the claim that over 50 percent of pupils were taking lessons under trees and 20 percent in dilapidated structures.
“Schools affected in accordance to their LGAs are Auyo, 20 schools, Jahun, Kafin Hausa and Kirikisamma, five, six and seven; Kaugama, Mallam Madori, Miga, Ringim and Taura, two, one, 13, five and eight. Schools were closed as a result of flood that makes access to them impossible”
