Senate seeks stakeholders’ summit on flood
The Senate yesterday called on the Federal Government to convene a stakeholders’ meeting to xray the recurring flood disasters around the country with a view to proffering concrete solutions.
The Senate said this would go a long way in addressing the flood disasters that have ravaged different parts of the country.
Members of the Red Chamber also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials for victims of flood across various states of the country.
They also urged the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to rehabilitate existing dams to be able to take in flood waters, commending NEMA and other relevant agencies for creating awareness that helped in reducing casualty level.
The resolutions followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by 99 senators led by Kabiru Gaya (APC, Kano) and Stella Oduah (PDP, Anambra).
