LASEMA re­it­er­ates need for safety of lives, prop­erty

The La­gos State Emer­gency Man­age­ment Agency (LASEMA) has re­it­er­ated its readi­ness to part­ner with rel­e­vant in­sti­tu­tions and other stake­hold­ers to­wards en­trench­ing safety of lives and prop­erty in the state.

The agency’s Gen­eral Man­ager, Mr Adesina Ti­amiyu, dis­closed this yes­ter­day at the Com­mand & Con­trol Cen­tre, Alausa, Ikeja, while re­ceiv­ing a del­e­ga­tion of the Dis­as­ter Man­age­ment pro­gramme of the Univer­sity of La­gos, Akoka.

Ti­amiyu stated that LASEMA’s door was open to part­ner­ship and col­lab­o­ra­tion with rel­e­vant in­sti­tu­tions to­wards build­ing its ca­pac­ity and re­sponse ca­pa­bil­ity in dis­as­ter man­age­ment.

He noted that over the years, the agency had given nec­es­sary sup­port and as­sis­tance to stu­dents from var­i­ous uni­ver­si­ties in the ar­eas of in­tern­ship, re­search & de­vel­op­ment, train­ing and skill ac­qui­si­tion, as well as vol­un­teer­ing in emer­gency re­sponse.

He as­sured the univer­sity’s man­age­ment that the agency would be will­ing to ac­cept stu­dents for in­dus­trial at­tach­ment pro­gramme at the LASEMA Re­sponse Unit (LRU) after a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing had been worked out be­tween the two bod­ies.

The leader of the del­e­ga­tion, Pro­fes­sor Alabi Son­eye, who is the co­or­di­na­tor of the Mas­ter’s de­gree pro­gramme in Dis­as­ter Man­age­ment at the Univer­sity of La­gos, noted that re­search car­ried out by the univer­sity can be in­te­grated and used by the agency in emer­gency/ dis­as­ter mit­i­ga­tion and pre­pared­ness.
