LASEMA reiterates need for safety of lives, property
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reiterated its readiness to partner with relevant institutions and other stakeholders towards entrenching safety of lives and property in the state.
The agency’s General Manager, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu, disclosed this yesterday at the Command & Control Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, while receiving a delegation of the Disaster Management programme of the University of Lagos, Akoka.
Tiamiyu stated that LASEMA’s door was open to partnership and collaboration with relevant institutions towards building its capacity and response capability in disaster management.
He noted that over the years, the agency had given necessary support and assistance to students from various universities in the areas of internship, research & development, training and skill acquisition, as well as volunteering in emergency response.
He assured the university’s management that the agency would be willing to accept students for industrial attachment programme at the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) after a Memorandum of Understanding had been worked out between the two bodies.
The leader of the delegation, Professor Alabi Soneye, who is the coordinator of the Master’s degree programme in Disaster Management at the University of Lagos, noted that research carried out by the university can be integrated and used by the agency in emergency/ disaster mitigation and preparedness.
