Plateau: Operation Safe Haven commissions base in Mangu
Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a Special Task Force established to maintain peace in Plateau State and some parts of Southern Bauchi and Kaduna States, weekend commissioned a Forward Operational Base (FOB) tactical headquarters in Gyambwas district of Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State.
The FOB, established earlier this year, was aimed at ensuring quick response to crime and resettling the villagers who fled their homes as a result of incessant crises.
The commander of the taskforce, Major-General Augustine Agundu, stated that the base would guarantee safety of the people at all times.
According to him, “when I took over as the OPSH Commander, I visited Gyambwas community and saw that all the villagers are nowhere to be found. So I decided to set up an FOB tactical formation that will provide security within the area to boost the confidence of the villagers so that they can return home. With this development, the inhabitants of this community have now returned home.”
Gen. Agundu said the tactical FOB in the district would also patrol other neighbouring communities to curb attempt at invasion by assailants adding that “our presence here will aid us to patrol neighbouring communities especially Fan district and that is why I have provided my troops with bikes to aid their patrol”.
While calling on the people of Gyambwas to be law-abiding and learn to tolerate one another, the commander also promised to support the efficiency of the community’s only clinic as well as assist in encouraging children to return to school.
In his speech, the district head of Gindiri, AlhajiTankoAdamu, affirmed that the FOB had restored peace to the community.
