Fuel tanker catches fire in Deidei

- By Nafisat Aduni Musa

A fuel tanker conveying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) on Tuesday evening caught fire at Deidei while on its way to Zuba.

The FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Ayuba Wobin, who spoke with our reporter on phone, said there was no casualty in the incident.

He said Fire Service and FRSC officer was mobilised to the area to put out the fire and direct traffic.

“There was no casualty, the driver and two of his assistants came out of the vehicle unhurt. And our officer and fire fighters ensured that the fire did not affect other motorists,” he said.

Our reporter, who witnessed the incident, said the tanker which exploded, at about 6:10 PM, was in motion but the driver manoeuvred and parked it at the parkway before getting out.

Another witness, Mallam Ibrahim, said a motorcyclist was lucky to escape the inferno. According to him, the motorcyclist was overtaking the tanker when it caught fire.

“When the motorcyclist was about overtaking the tanker, it caught fire and the driver, in his wisdom, quickly moved it to the service lane, away from the okada rider, and that was how he escaped the fire,” he said.

He also said the driver did his best to ensure that other road users were not affected by the fire.
