715 house­holds af­fected by flood in 2 Niger coun­cils

About 715 house­holds in 57 com­mu­ni­ties have been af­fected by flood in Bosso and Paikoro Lo­cal Govern­ment Ar­eas of Niger State, wash­ing away crops worth mil­lions of naira.

The Head, Na­tional Emer­gency Man­age­ment Agency (NEMA), Minna Oper­a­tions Of­fice, Wagami Ly­dia, dis­closed this dur­ing the pre­sen­ta­tion of re­lief ma­te­ri­als to the af­fected peo­ple.

Ly­dia, who was rep­re­sented by the Head of Search & Res­cue Unit, Hus­saini Isah, noted that this year's flood­ing was pre­dicted by NiMET early in the year and it had come to pass.

He said the re­lief items were to ame­lio­rate the hard­ship which the flood dis­as­ter in­flicted on the peo­ple.

“The re­lief items ap­proved and on ground here for dis­tri­bu­tion in­clude; 715 bags of 12.5kg rice, 715 bags of 12.5kg maize, 715 bags of 25kg beans, 72 kegs of veg­etable oil, 120 car­tons of sea­son­ing cubes, 60 car­tons of to­mato ketchup, 36 bags of salt, 1,430 pieces of foam mat­tresses, 1,430 pieces of wax print, 1,430 pieces of mos­quito nets, 1,430 pieces of blan­kets, 600 bags of ce­ment, 600 bun­dles of roof­ing sheets, 160 pack­ets of zinc nails, and 80 bags of 3 inches nails,” he said.

The Chair­man of Bosso Lo­cal Govern­ment Area, Arc. Abubakar Gomna, who spoke for the two af­fected LGAs thanked the fed­eral govern­ment for its mag­na­nim­ity, not­ing that when the in­ci­dent oc­curred, the af­fected peo­ple did not en­vis­age re­ceiv­ing help this quickly.
