PEF, foun­da­tion treat 8,000 pa­tients in Adamawa

The Pe­tro­leum Equal­iza­tion Fund (PEF), in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Iya Ab­bas Foun­da­tion (IAF), has com­menced treat­ment of over 8,000 pa­tients in Uba-Gaya and other com­mu­ni­ties in Hong Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area of Adamawa State.

Pa­tients suf­fer­ing from di­a­betes, hep­ati­tis, cataract and other diseases are ex­pected to ben­e­fit from the one week med­i­cal out­reach co­or­di­nated by the Foun­da­tion and funded by PEF.

Dr Hauwa Iya Ab­bas, the Pro­gram Man­ager of the Foun­da­tion and Co­or­di­na­tor of the med­i­cal out­reach dis­closed that 3000 chil­dren and 5000 adults would be treated while 200 oth­ers would un­dergo dif­fer­ent types of surg­eries.

She noted that the med­i­cal out­reach would be con­ducted by spe­cial­ist doc­tors from the Fed­eral Med­i­cal Cen­tre Yola and the State Spe­cial­ists Hospital Yola.

“Tests would be con­ducted also on di­a­betes, hep­ati­tis and oth­ers. The out­reach will cover three days in Uba, Gaya and Hong con­cur­rently,” she ex­plained.

Hauwa added that surg­eries would be per­formed at the Pri­mary Health Cen­tre in Uba and the Cot­tage Hospital Hong while ma­jor surg­eries and com­pli­ca­tions would be re­ferred to the Spe­cial­ists Hospital Yola.

Speak­ing at the flag off on Thurs­day at the Pri­mary Health Cen­tre in Uba town, the Speaker, Adamawa State House As­sem­bly, Abubakar Iya Ab­bas com­mended the Ex­ec­u­tive Sec­re­tary of PEF, Ah­mad Bob­boi for fund­ing the free med­i­cal out­reach in his con­stituency.

Af­ter un­der­go­ing suc­cess­ful surgery on Thurs­day, some of the cataract pa­tients, who spoke to jour­nal­ists, ex­pressed grat­i­tude to the spon­sors and the med­i­cal per­son­nel.
