PEF, foundation treat 8,000 patients in Adamawa
The Petroleum Equalization Fund (PEF), in collaboration with the Iya Abbas Foundation (IAF), has commenced treatment of over 8,000 patients in Uba-Gaya and other communities in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Patients suffering from diabetes, hepatitis, cataract and other diseases are expected to benefit from the one week medical outreach coordinated by the Foundation and funded by PEF.
Dr Hauwa Iya Abbas, the Program Manager of the Foundation and Coordinator of the medical outreach disclosed that 3000 children and 5000 adults would be treated while 200 others would undergo different types of surgeries.
She noted that the medical outreach would be conducted by specialist doctors from the Federal Medical Centre Yola and the State Specialists Hospital Yola.
“Tests would be conducted also on diabetes, hepatitis and others. The outreach will cover three days in Uba, Gaya and Hong concurrently,” she explained.
Hauwa added that surgeries would be performed at the Primary Health Centre in Uba and the Cottage Hospital Hong while major surgeries and complications would be referred to the Specialists Hospital Yola.
Speaking at the flag off on Thursday at the Primary Health Centre in Uba town, the Speaker, Adamawa State House Assembly, Abubakar Iya Abbas commended the Executive Secretary of PEF, Ahmad Bobboi for funding the free medical outreach in his constituency.
After undergoing successful surgery on Thursday, some of the cataract patients, who spoke to journalists, expressed gratitude to the sponsors and the medical personnel.
