On the 1st and 2nd of May, 2016, the Nige­rian food in­dus­try was put on a pedestal and show­cased with the Food and Drink Fair 2016, pow­ered by the pres­ti­gious Gt­bank. The ex­cit­ing 2 day event was ex­e­cuted on the vast 2,400m2 open air space and tent of the Food and Drink Cen­tre, Oniru - Vic­to­ria Is­land, La­gos and con­verged over 70 dif­fer­ent food and drink en­trepreneurs with ex­hi­bi­tions in­clud­ing: Fresh and Dry Foods, Con­fec­tioner­ies and Bak­ery Items, Bev­er­ages, Wines and spir­its, Ready-to-eat Con­sum­ables, Restau­rants, Food ser­vices, Ap­pli­ances and even House­hold Items. Thou­sands of so­phis­ti­cated food en­thu­si­asts present were en­gaged with culi­nary ex­pe­ri­ences such as food and wine tast­ings, cook­ing master classes with renowned In­ter­na­tional and Nige­rian chefs, out­door grills and thrilling en­ter­tain­ment. These were 2 days of fun, fill­ing up and net­work­ing be­tween food en­thu­si­asts and en­trepreneurs and noth­ing was spared to en­sure a suc­cess­ful en­trée. The suc­cess of this fair proves yet an­other av­enue for in­vest­ment and de­vel­op­ment vis-a-vis the tourism in­dus­try. Mr Se­gun Ag­baje, the Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor of Guar­anty Trust Bank plc, com­mented on the fair, thus: “We are in­cred­i­bly ex­cited to show­case the di­verse culi­nary mo­saic that Nige­ria uniquely of­fers to the world as a prime des­ti­na­tion for food en­thu­si­asts from around the world.”

He fur­ther added that, “In ad­di­tion to show­cas­ing the wide ar­ray of Nige­ria’s culi­nary com­mu­nity as well as the riches of Africa’s cuisine, this fair re­in­forces our com­mit­ment to sup­port­ing small busi­nesses and pro­mot­ing our rich her­itage.”
