… Another faction takes over Kaduna

Sunday Trust - - NEWS - From Maryam AhmaduSuka, Kaduna

Another faction of the Tijjaniyya sect headed by Sheik Ishaq Rabiu locked down Kaduna town. Like the Abuja group, the members converged on the Murtala Muhammmad Square, Kaduna, to celebrate Eidel-Maulud, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him.)

Our correspondent reports that the celebration caused heavy traffic gridlock in the state capital, especially on roads surrounding the venue of the Maulud.

Kaduna had since Monday witnessed the influx of members of the sect as they mounted makeshift stalls along the Ali Akilu road, Alkai road and all locations surrounding the Murtala square. It was observed that members of the sect also came in vehicles which carried photos of Shehu Ibrahim Nyass. The Maulud celebration which lasted for hours had in attendance the Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau.

Though the event was peaceful, the situation caused tension and anxiety in the city, considering the insecurity in the country.

Our correspondent reports that the vast space of the Murtala Muhammad Square was filled to capacity, forcing over half of the population to hang outside to listen to sermons from renowned scholars.
