Atletico Madrid con­firm Costa’s in­jury ahead clash with Arse­nal

Atletico Madrid have con­firmed that Diego Costa suf­fered a ham­string in­jury against Sport­ing Lis­bon, al­though the club have not given a time-scale as to whether the striker will be fit to face Arse­nal.

Costa was forced off in the 52nd minute of Atletico’s Europa League quar­ter-fi­nal sec­ond-leg clash away to Sport­ing on Thurs­day night af­ter sus­tain­ing the in­jury.

The Spain in­ter­na­tional un­der­went tests in Madrid on Fri­day, which have re­vealed a ham­string in­jury to his left thigh.

The news will be a worry for Atletico, who take on Arse­nal in their Europa League semi­fi­nal first-leg clash at the Emi­rates Sta­dium on Thurs­day 26 April.

The re­turn leg takes place on May 3 at Atletico’s Wanda Metropoli­tano sta­dium.

The tie will be the first com­pet­i­tive meet­ing be­tween the two sides and comes af­ter Atletico edged Sport­ing 2-1 on ag­gre­gate in the last round, while Arse­nal se­cured a 6-3 ag­gre­gate score-line against CSKA Moscow.
