Kawas emerges FCT Free­dom Party se­na­to­rial can­di­date

The Free­dom and Jus­tice Party (FJP) has elected Pro­fes­sor Ba­ture Kawas as its can­di­date to con­test the 2019 se­na­to­rial elec­tion for the Fed­eral Cap­i­tal Ter­ri­tory (FCT).

At the party’s pri­mary elec­tion held at its head­quar­ters in Abuja, 34 del­e­gates were ac­cred­ited to vote, of which Kawas scored 32 votes to emerge as the con­sen­sus can­di­date. Two votes were in­valid.

Speak­ing af­ter he was de­clared win­ner by the Na­tional Chair­man of the party, Dr. Break­forth On­wubuya, who was the re­turn­ing of­fi­cer, Kawas promised not to fail the peo­ple of the FCT if elected.

Ac­cord­ing to him, he has as­sem­bled a team of lawyers, in­clud­ing a Se­nior Ad­vo­cate of Nige­ria (SAN), to pre­pare a Bill to ac­cord May­oral sta­tus to the FCT, vow­ing that his first as­sign­ment in the Na­tional Assem­bly will be to present and push for the pas­sage of the Bill into law.
