Kawas emerges FCT Freedom Party senatorial candidate
The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) has elected Professor Bature Kawas as its candidate to contest the 2019 senatorial election for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
At the party’s primary election held at its headquarters in Abuja, 34 delegates were accredited to vote, of which Kawas scored 32 votes to emerge as the consensus candidate. Two votes were invalid.
Speaking after he was declared winner by the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Breakforth Onwubuya, who was the returning officer, Kawas promised not to fail the people of the FCT if elected.
According to him, he has assembled a team of lawyers, including a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), to prepare a Bill to accord Mayoral status to the FCT, vowing that his first assignment in the National Assembly will be to present and push for the passage of the Bill into law.
