In­sti­tute of Physics hon­ours ABU don

The Coun­cil of Nige­ria In­sti­tute Physics (NIP) has con­ferred a fel­low­ship award on a renowned physi­cist and re­searcher at Ah­madu Bello Univer­sity (ABU) Pro­fes­sor Bala Bello Muham­mad Dewu.

Pre­sent­ing the award at the 2018 An­nual Gen­eral Con­fer­ence held at the Fed­eral Univer­sity Lafia, Nasarawa State, the Pres­i­dent of NIP, Pro­fes­sor Hy­acinth Aboh, said that Dewu was con­ferred with the fel­low­ship award for his im­mense con­tri­bu­tions to the growth and de­vel­op­ment of physics in the coun­try and beyond.

Aboh de­scribed Dewu as a con­se­quen­tial re­searcher in the field of physics who has taught and su­per­vised many un­der­grad­u­ate and post­grad­u­ate stu­dents.

“He has grad­u­ated many Ph.D. and M.Sc. can­di­dates. Due to his hard work, Prof. Dewu, at the last count, has about 49 jour­nal pub­li­ca­tions, many chap­ter con­tri­bu­tion in books and con­fer­ence pro­ceed­ings and over 30 con­fer­ence pa­pers”, he said.

Re­spond­ing, the pro­fes­sor thanked NIP for the recog­ni­tion and hon­our say­ing, “this award is an achieve­ment, the award will gin­ger me to as­sist in the progress of the so­ci­ety.

With physics you can solve vir­tu­ally ev­ery prob­lem. We in­tend to ap­ply the knowl­edge of physic in our na­tional lives and also in solv­ing na­tional prob­lems be­dev­illing the coun­try.”

Pro­fes­sor Dewu has served the Ah­madu Bello Univer­sity in dif­fer­ent ad­min­is­tra­tive ca­pac­i­ties. No­tably, he was the Man­ag­ing Direc­tor, Ah­madu Bello Univer­sity Con­sul­tancy Ser­vices (ABUCONS) from 1997 to 2001; Head, Ma­te­rial Sci­ence and De­vel­op­ment Sec­tion, CERT, ABU, Zaria from 2006 to 2010. Alumni Of­fi­cer, ABU, Zaria, from 2007 to 2010.
