CAN I TAKE CARBONATED DRINKS DURING PREGNANCY

Sunday Trust - - BEAUTY -

I am twenty one weeks pregnant my husband has refused me to taking soft drinks - cocacola or can alcoholic beverages since I got pregnant. Sometimes I wish to take it occasionally. This has resulted into friction between both of us. Can I take them? Halima, Kaduna

There are a lot of arguments and myths about what you can and cannot take during pregnancy.

Concerning soft drinks occasionally I do not see any problem with that. About the alcoholic beverages one has to be more careful. Those who drink alcoholic beverages, especially heavy drink have the risk of what is called fetal alcoholic syndrome.

Generally speaking the best advice is to just eat normally during pregnancy. Avoid excess of anything. Soft drink is not contraindicated in pregnancy.
