IDPs weep as Masari visits camp

Many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking refuge at the Faskari Camp in Katsina State yesterday wept profusely as Governor Aminu Masari and top government officials visited the camp, calling for serious intervention over their plight.

Women and children broke into tears as the governor and his team made way to depart the camp. They shouted for help and attention to their plight, especially by restoring peace to enable them return home.

Some of the women placed their hands on their heads while others rolled on the ground as they wept. There are about 3,886 women and children at the camp. They were forced into the camp following the spate of attacks on their town by bandits which led to the death of many and destruction of property.

Addressing them, Masari said he was disturbed by the insecurity in the state and assured that security agents would work hard to return them home.

He said: “The bandits only know force and guns and it is imperative to use such to address the situation, they cannot match the power force of the army. People must provide useful information to security agents to tame the situation. Please bear a little more with us,” he said.
