Flood Sacks Residents In Cross River

The Guardian (Nigeria) - - NEWS - From Tina Todo, Calabar

REcentheavy down pour experienced in Calabar has become a treath to lives and property, as residents of Ikot Eka-edem have been forced out of their homes.

The rain, which started in the early hours of Thursday, brought down part of a building where a family of seven excaped death.

Luckily, only a man popularly know as Eka-baby, had a minor injury on his leg when the building fell down as he was sleeping. Theguardian garthered that his wife and children spent the night at the mother inlaw’s house in Calabar South when the incident occurred.

One of the victims, Mr. Udo Akpan lamented over his lost, as he blamed it on poor drainage channels along the street.

He said the only channel for Water has been blocked with dirt since the beginning of the present adminstration.

Udo Akpan lamented, “I have been living here for over a decade now and I have never seen anything like we are experiencing this year.

“I think the main channels which Water passes through are blocked dirt and this happened because the present government is not taking measures to maintain the channels.

“I have lost my properties to Water. All my electronics and documents are distroyed “he cried.
