THE Rotary clubs of Dormagen, District 1810 Germany; Uden, District 1550 Holland, and the Rotary Foundation have donated sets of sewing machine worth N3.5 million to Enyemaka Ohanaeze youth development center in Oke-ogba, Badagry area of Lagos State. The equipment were donated to empower youths in the community, at the handover ceremony of its global grant project organized by the Rotary Club of Amuwo.

The immediate past president of the club, Annie Essienette, said the journey started last year, when Rotary Club of Amuwo was approached by the Rotary Club of Dormagen through the founder of Enyemaka Ohaneze Foundation, Rev. Father Oliverdom, a cleric based in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The idea was borne out of the need to provide an alternative education for youths in Oke Ogbe, a community the reverend father usually visits whenever he is in Nigeria. “The Rotary Club of Dormagen in turn reached out to a sister club in Holland and together they agreed to raise funds through the Rotary Foundation,” she said.

As part of the project, a skills acquisition centre was opened in August with the plan to enrol up to 150 students every year. Already, 30 students have commenced training in hairdressing, fashion design, catering, wood and metal while Rotary Club of Amuwo can recommend 10 students for scholarship in any of the courses.
