Preg­nant woman, five oth­ers, die in Ogun ac­ci­dent

NO fewer than six per­sons, in­clud­ing a preg­nant woman, have died while two oth­ers were in­jured in an ac­ci­dent along Ajebo Road, Abeokuta, Ogun State cap­i­tal.

The ac­ci­dent, which oc­curred on Tues­day night, in­volved a gran­ite-laden Volvo truck and a Nis­san blue­bird car.

The spokesman of the State Traf­fic Com­pli­ance and En­force­ment Corps (TRACE), Mr. Ba­batunde Ak­in­biyi, who con­firmed the ac­ci­dent in Abeokuta yes­ter­day dis­closed that the Volvo truck with Reg­is­tra­tion No. KJA 731 XP col­lided with the Nis­san blue­bird marked, FD 638 EKY. Ak­in­biyi ex­plained that the ca­su­al­ties were all the pas­sen­gers in the Nis­san blue­bird, in­clud­ing the driver. He at­trib­uted the cause of the ac­ci­dent to reck­less driv­ing by the truck driver, who lost con­trol and col­lided with the on­com­ing Nis­san blue­bird.

Ak­in­biyi said: “The Volvo truck was com­ing into Abeokuta while the Nis­san blue­bird was trav­el­ling out­side the cap­i­tal city to Mile 6. He said the in­jured were re­ceiv­ing treat­ment at the Fed­eral Med­i­cal Cen­tre (FMC), Idi Aba, Abeokuta while bod­ies of the six vic­tims had been de­posited at the mor­tu­ary of the State Gen­eral Hospi­tal, Ijaiye. also in Abeokuta.
