Buhari, Tin­ubu meet in Lon­don

PRES­I­DENT Muham­madu Buhari on sun­day met with a na­tional leader of the rul­ing All Pro­gres­sives Congress, Asi­waju Bola Tin­ubu, in Lon­don.

Buhari had shortly af­ter a meet­ing of the party’s Na­tional ex­ec­u­tive Coun­cil last Mon­day trav­elled to the Bri­tish cap­i­tal on what the Pres­i­dency de­scribed as an of­fi­cial visit.

Pres­i­den­tial aides on sun­day flooded their time­lines on so­cial me­dia with the pho­tographs of the Pres­i­dent and his guest.

While Buhari spot­ted a light blue kaf­tan with a skull cap, Tin­ubu was in black suit.

As of the time of fil­ing this re­port, the Pres­i­dency had yet to is­sue a state­ment on the meet­ing of the two party lead­ers.

It will be re­called that Buhari had re­cently sad­dled Tin­ubu with the re­spon­si­bil­ity of rec­on­cil­ing ag­grieved APC mem­bers across the coun­try.

The for­mer La­gos state gov­er­nor had also pub­licly ap­plauded the re­cent po­si­tion of the Pres­i­dent that it would be un­con­sti­tu­tional to grant the party’s Na­tional Work­ing Com­mit­tee led by Chief John Odigie-oye­gun a ten­ure ex­ten­sion.

The se­nior spe­cial As­sis­tant to the Pres­i­dent on Me­dia and Public­ity, Garba shehu, had in a state­ment last sun­day said the Pres­i­dent would be meet­ing with some per­sons, in­clud­ing the Bri­tish Prime Min­is­ter, Theresa May, ahead of the Com­mon­wealth Heads of Gov­ern­ment Meet­ings dur­ing his visit to the UK.

He also men­tioned the Arch­bishop of Can­ter­bury, The Most Rev. Justin Welby; and the Chief ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer of Royal Dutch Plc, Mr. Ben van Beur­den, as some of those the Pres­i­dent would meet.

While Buhari has met Welby, he has yet to meet the Bri­tish Prime Min­is­ter and Beur­den.

The Pres­i­dent also on sun­day met with mem­bers of the Buhari Di­as­pora sup­port Or­gan­i­sa­tion led by Mr. Charles sylvester.

shehu’s state­ment had read, “Pres­i­dent Muham­madu Buhari will leave Abuja on Mon­day 9th April, 2018 for an of­fi­cial visit to Britain where he is due to hold dis­cus­sions on Nige­ria-bri­tish re­la­tions with Prime Min­is­ter, Mrs. Theresa May, prior to the Com­mon­wealth Heads of Gov­ern­ment Meet­ings sched­uled from 18th to 20th April, 2018.

“The Pres­i­dent will also meet the Chief ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer of Royal Dutch Plc, Mr. Ben van Beur­den, in con­nec­tion with shell and other part­ners’ plan to in­vest $15bn in Nige­ria’s oil in­dus­try.

“These in­vest­ment ven­tures will lay the foun­da­tion for the next 20 years pro­duc­tion and do­mes­tic gas sup­ply, bring­ing with it all the at­ten­dant ben­e­fits both to the econ­omy and the wider so­ci­ety.

“Pres­i­dent Buhari is due to re­new dis­cus­sions with the Arch­bishop of Can­ter­bury, The Most Rev. Justin Welby, a good friend of the Pres­i­dent on in­ter-re­li­gious har­mony in Nige­ria and world­wide.

“Fur­ther meet­ings have also been sched­uled for the Pres­i­dent to see some prom­i­nent Bri­tish and Nige­ri­ans re­sid­ing in Britain.”
