Buhari, Tinubu meet in London
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on sunday met with a national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in London.
Buhari had shortly after a meeting of the party’s National executive Council last Monday travelled to the British capital on what the Presidency described as an official visit.
Presidential aides on sunday flooded their timelines on social media with the photographs of the President and his guest.
While Buhari spotted a light blue kaftan with a skull cap, Tinubu was in black suit.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had yet to issue a statement on the meeting of the two party leaders.
It will be recalled that Buhari had recently saddled Tinubu with the responsibility of reconciling aggrieved APC members across the country.
The former Lagos state governor had also publicly applauded the recent position of the President that it would be unconstitutional to grant the party’s National Working Committee led by Chief John Odigie-oyegun a tenure extension.
The senior special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba shehu, had in a statement last sunday said the President would be meeting with some persons, including the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings during his visit to the UK.
He also mentioned the Archbishop of Canterbury, The Most Rev. Justin Welby; and the Chief executive Officer of Royal Dutch Plc, Mr. Ben van Beurden, as some of those the President would meet.
While Buhari has met Welby, he has yet to meet the British Prime Minister and Beurden.
The President also on sunday met with members of the Buhari Diaspora support Organisation led by Mr. Charles sylvester.
shehu’s statement had read, “President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja on Monday 9th April, 2018 for an official visit to Britain where he is due to hold discussions on Nigeria-british relations with Prime Minister, Mrs. Theresa May, prior to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings scheduled from 18th to 20th April, 2018.
“The President will also meet the Chief executive Officer of Royal Dutch Plc, Mr. Ben van Beurden, in connection with shell and other partners’ plan to invest $15bn in Nigeria’s oil industry.
“These investment ventures will lay the foundation for the next 20 years production and domestic gas supply, bringing with it all the attendant benefits both to the economy and the wider society.
“President Buhari is due to renew discussions with the Archbishop of Canterbury, The Most Rev. Justin Welby, a good friend of the President on inter-religious harmony in Nigeria and worldwide.
“Further meetings have also been scheduled for the President to see some prominent British and Nigerians residing in Britain.”
