Aconstruction firm, Jamub Group, has said it would begin a scholarship scheme, Schoolme Scholarship Lottery, to enable undergraduates across the country to raise funds for their education.

The group said the scheme would open by next Tuesday nationwide, where undergraduates and other students of higher institutions would participate and win cash prizes.

The head, Public Relations Unit of the Jamub’s School-me Scholarship Lottery, Freda Isekhua, said in a statement in Abuja that poverty was a major factor hindering access to quality education in Nigeria.

She noted that the scholarship scheme was a way to complete education financing.

She said, “It is rather very disappointing to note that Nigeria remains one of the countries in the continent with poor adult education index. We need more private sectors to come up with innovative ways of financing education in the country. One of such is the School-me Scholarship Lottery project. It is a way of complementing education financing in the country.

“The scheme is a lottery designed to assist students in higher schools to raise additional money to complement their education financing. The proceeds from the lottery shall be used to further scholarship programmes accordingly. The scheme is expected to be unveiled later in April and it is open to everyone for schooling purposes.”
