Army re­sumes op­er­a­tion to check se­cu­rity threat in S/east

The Nige­rian Army is set to re­sume Ex­er­cise Egwu Eke II (Python Dance II) in the South­east from Fri­day, Septem­ber 15 to Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 14, 2017. The Army Chief of Train­ing and Op­er­a­tions, Ma­jor Gen­eral David Ah­madu, dis­closed this at a news con­fer­ence in Abuja yes­ter­day. He said the ex­er­cise would be con­ducted in the 82 Divi­sion Area of Re­spon­si­bil­ity cov­er­ing Abia, Anam­bra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.

Ah­madu re­called that a sim­i­lar ex­er­cise co­de­named Egwu Eke I, (Python Dance I) was con­ducted from Nov 27 to Dec 27, 2016 within the same area. He noted that the ob­jec­tive was to ef­fec­tively con­tain kid­nap­ping and other vices preva­lent in the re­gion ev­ery yule­tide sea­son. He said the cur­rent ex­er­cise was ne­ces­si­tated troops ex­er­cise, re­fresh­ing and im­bib­ing the req­ui­site skills to cope with emerg­ing se­cu­rity chal­lenges within the 82 Divi­sion Area of Re­spon­si­bil­ity in aid of civil au­thor­ity.

Ah­madu added: “Fur­ther­more, in ac­tu­al­is­ing the COAS vi­sion of hav­ing a pro­fes­sion­ally re­spon­sive Nige­rian Army in the dis­charge of its con­sti­tu­tional roles, Ex­er­cise Egwu Eke II be­comes highly de­sir­able in conjunction with sis­ter ser­vices and other se­cu­rity agen­cies to en­sure suc­cess.”
