Army resumes operation to check security threat in S/east
The Nigerian Army is set to resume Exercise Egwu Eke II (Python Dance II) in the Southeast from Friday, September 15 to Saturday, October 14, 2017. The Army Chief of Training and Operations, Major General David Ahmadu, disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja yesterday. He said the exercise would be conducted in the 82 Division Area of Responsibility covering Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.
Ahmadu recalled that a similar exercise codenamed Egwu Eke I, (Python Dance I) was conducted from Nov 27 to Dec 27, 2016 within the same area. He noted that the objective was to effectively contain kidnapping and other vices prevalent in the region every yuletide season. He said the current exercise was necessitated troops exercise, refreshing and imbibing the requisite skills to cope with emerging security challenges within the 82 Division Area of Responsibility in aid of civil authority.
Ahmadu added: “Furthermore, in actualising the COAS vision of having a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles, Exercise Egwu Eke II becomes highly desirable in conjunction with sister services and other security agencies to ensure success.”
