Osinbajo inaugurates presidential council on SDGs
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja inaugurated the Presidential Council on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The vice president said achieving the goals would help the country reduce poverty and unemployment.
He said the council would provide policy direction for the implementation of the SDGs as its work would be crucial for resource mobilization, prioritization of interventions and periodic assessment.
Osinbajo stated that the implementation of the SDGs was an integral part of the government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.
He said progress on the goals would reduce maternal and child mortality as well as the number of out-of-school children.
“Success with the implementation of the SDGs will have an impact on our cities, and on the quality of the lives of those who live within them,” he said.
Osinbajo, who noted that achieving the SDGs would mark a quantum socio-economic leap for Nigeria, said: “Failure to achieve the SDGs will have exponential implication on our generation and for those yet unborn.”
