Calabar Carnival: Prize money now N100m

The Cross River State Government has made the Calabar Carnival more enticing as it concludes plans to increase the prize money from N50 million to N100 million for the participating bands of the cultural fiesta - Bayside Band, Master Blaster Band, Seagull Band, Freedom Band and Passion 4 Band.

Explaining the reason for this, the state’s commissioner for Tourism, Mr Eric Anderson, during a media parley said “This year’s carnival is going to take a new shape and we are working hard to ensure that there are new initiatives by the various bands.

“This is why the governor has graciously approved N100m from the previous N50m for the use of each band because they are going to be involved in, not just the carnival, but other activities like the street party.”

Anderson also stated that government would not take kindly to derogatory jokes which comedians usually crack.

In another event, Mr Gabe Onah, Chairman for the Cross River State Carnival Commission, said that about two million people from 25 countries are expected at the December event.
