Govt, IHVN signs MoU on lab for vi­ral epi­demics

The Nasarawa State Gov­ern­ment and the In­sti­tute of Hu­man Vi­rol­ogy, Nige­ria (IHVN) have signed a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing (MoU) to es­tab­lish of a world-class re­search lab­o­ra­tory for Lassa fever and other vi­ral epi­demics.

Speak­ing at the event in Lafia yes­ter­day, the state cap­i­tal, the state Com­mis­sioner of Health, Dr Daniel Iya, ex­pressed joy over the set­ting-up of the cen­tre and the part­ner­ship with IHVN.

He said when fully op­er­a­tional, the cen­tre would help make ac­cu­rate di­ag­no­sis and prog­no­sis on diseases.

The Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer of IHVN, Dr Pa­trick Dakum, said the in­sti­tute would be pro­vid­ing the tech­ni­cal sup­port to en­sure that the cen­tre meets ac­cred­i­ta­tion stan­dards.
