Ban­dits kill baby, 6 oth­ers in Zam­fara

Armed ban­dits yes­ter­day shot dead at least seven peo­ple in­clud­ing a baby in Anka Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area of Zam­fara State. The vic­tims were on their way to the Dankurmi mar­ket when the ban­dits in­ter­cepted them and started col­lect­ing money, mo­bile phones, mo­tor­bikes and other valu­ables from them.

Res­i­dents told our cor­re­spon­dent that they shot dead any­one who re­sisted their move and among those killed were an old woman and her grand­child.

“Dozens of them wield­ing ri­fles stopped the res­i­dents on their way to Dankurmi mar­ket be­tween SabonBirn­inBanaga and Duhuwa vil­lages, killing peo­ple,” a res­i­dent, Aliyu Kawaye, said. He said they burnt many mo­tor­cy­cles seized from traders. The spokesman of the state po­lice com­mand could not be reached for com­ment at the time of fil­ing this re­port.
