Akon, Ai­ida to host AFRIMA

Or­gan­is­ers of the an­nual mu­sic cel­e­bra­tion, All Africa Mu­sic Awards (AFRIMA) have an­nounced Akon as host of this year’s edi­tion of the event sched­uled for Novem­ber 12 in La­gos.

A re­lease by the African Union Com­mis­sion and the In­ter­na­tional Com­mit­tee of AFRIMA said the Sene­gal-born star “will han­dle the event pro­ceed­ings of the live broad­cast award show sched­uled to air live on over 80 tele­vi­sion sta­tions and on­line plat­forms across the world. The cer­e­mony will be co-hosted by Cameroo­nian-French en­ter­tain­ment broad­caster, Ms. So­phy Ai­ida. The re­lease added that the AFRIMA Mu­sic Vil­lage will pre­cede the main awards cer­e­mony and will in­clude an evening of non-stop open mu­sic fes­ti­val of live per­for­mances from African stars and nom­i­nees, with an au­di­ence of 40,000 peo­ple. As part of the AFRIMA week­end, there will be an Africa Mu­sic Busi­ness Round­table in as­so­ci­a­tion with the en­ter­tain­ment com­pany, TRACE, themed Dig­i­tal Takeover: Shap­ing the Fu­ture of African Mu­sic. The aim is to cre­ate a plat­form for en­gage­ment on mu­sic, money, me­dia and evolv­ing global busi­ness prac­tices as they af­fect the cre­ative in­dus­tries in Africa. The event, or­gan­ised in part­ner­ship with the African Union Com­mis­sion and La­gos State, cel­e­brates Africa by re­ward­ing the cre­ativ­ity and orig­i­nal­ity of African artistes and song­writ­ers.
