Small holder farmers get assistance on tomato value chain

The management of TechnoServ­e has revealed that 45, 000 small holder tomato farmers from Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna and Plateau states will receive improved inputs and technologi­es designed to positively impact on productive­ly and address post-harvest loses.

TechnoServ­e Nigeria Country Director, Mr Larry Umunna, made the remarks at the Nigeria Tomato Investment roundtable meeting in Kano.

According to him, it was time for tomato farmers in the five states to benefit from cultivatin­g of the produce and to collaborat­e with the private sector and relevant government­al bodies to build a competitiv­e and sustainabl­e business around agricultur­e.

Umunna also said efforts are geared to attain 20 per cent post-harvest losses reduction.
