PDP NEC ap­proves Port Har­court as con­ven­tion venue

The Na­tional Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee (NEC) of the Peo­ple’s Demo­cratic Party (PDP) yes­ter­day ap­proved Port Har­court as venue for the party’s con­ven­tion slated for Oc­to­ber 5 and 6 to elect the party’s pres­i­den­tial can­di­date for the 2019 elec­tion.

Gov­er­nor Nye­som Wike and the Na­tional Work­ing Com­mit­tee (NWC) had in­sisted on Port Har­court while the Board of Trustees (BoT) had said it must be held in Abuja.

Ad­dress­ing news­men at the end of the NEC meet­ing in Abuja, the Na­tional Public­ity Sec­re­tary, Kola Olog­bondiyan, said close to 4,000 del­e­gates were ex­pected at the con­ven­tion.

The party, how­ever, ex­pressed fears over the abil­ity of INEC un­der Prof. Mah­mood Yakubu as Chair­man and Mrs. Amina Zakari as Di­rec­tor of Op­er­a­tions to con­duct free-and-fair elec­tions.
