About the F-7Ni jet
Formerly known as the Chengdu J-7, the Chinese license-built version of the Soviet-era MiG21 interceptor was bought by the Federal Government, $251 million for 15 units in 2005. Made up of 12 fighter jets and three trainer jets, the model was renamed F-7Ni and FT-7Ni, respectively. Production of the type ended in 2013.
The F-7Ni has been in heavy use in the fight against Boko Haram in north-eastern Nigeria, recently making headlines when the NAF struck a major insurgent logistics base.
