Armed bandits yesterday stormed Gwalli village in Gummi LGA of Zamfara State and kidnapped a businessman after killing six people, residents said.

The residents said dozens of armed men arrived on motorbikes, asking for the businessman, Alhaji Lawali Mai Tireda, but they were unable to locate his residence.

“The gunmen then got annoyed at the residents and started shooting indiscriminately at them, killing at least six persons and wounding several others.

“When Alhaji Lawali learnt that people were being killed for his sake, he presented himself to the attackers, pleading with them to stop further shooting. They then demanded for money and he gave them N1 million. They demanded N7 million more but he told them that he had no such money. They thereafter went away with him,” a resident, Abubakar A. Gummi, said. The state police spokesman, SP Muhammad Shehu, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
