Aiteo Cup: Gov’t assures Kano Pillars of more support
The Kano State government has promised more support for Kano Pillars football club as they preapre to take on Enugu Rangers in this year’s Aiteo Cup final on October 24 in Asaba, Delta State.
On Wednesday, the ‘masu gida’ boys as Pillars are called defeated neighbours Katsina United 4-1 on penalties after 2-2 draw in regulation time in Lagos to reach their second federation Cup final.
Already, the Kano State government has commended the team for overcoming all odds to reach the Aiteo Cup final.
The state Deputy Governor, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna who is also the president of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, YSFON, made the commendation while reacting to the recent performances of the club.
Gawuna who personally sponsored the team’s flight tickets to and fro Lagos said the gesture was to motivate them to win the elusive cup.
He attributed the success of the club in the competition to the collective efforts of Kano state government, management of the club and other stakeholders in the state and hoped the tempo would be sustained.
While assuring the team of additional support from government, the Deputy Governor said plans are under way to camp the players in preparation for the final match against Enugu Rangers.
On his part, the chairman of the club Alhaji Tukur Babangida thanked the state government for its support for the team and assured that they would do everything humanly possible to win the final match.
“We owe our success so far to the unflinching support from the government and people of Kano State.
“In terms of support, Kano Pillars are the best in Nigerian football.
“We have always enjoyed the support of goverment and our teeming fans.
“The only way to reciprocate their kind gesture is to win the Aiteo Federation Cup,” he said.
