Ai­teo Cup: Gov’t as­sures Kano Pil­lars of more sup­port

The Kano State gov­ern­ment has promised more sup­port for Kano Pil­lars foot­ball club as they preapre to take on Enugu Rangers in this year’s Ai­teo Cup fi­nal on Oc­to­ber 24 in As­aba, Delta State.

On Wednesday, the ‘masu gida’ boys as Pil­lars are called de­feated neigh­bours Katsina United 4-1 on penal­ties af­ter 2-2 draw in reg­u­la­tion time in La­gos to reach their sec­ond fed­er­a­tion Cup fi­nal.

Al­ready, the Kano State gov­ern­ment has com­mended the team for over­com­ing all odds to reach the Ai­teo Cup fi­nal.

The state Deputy Gover­nor, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna who is also the pres­i­dent of the Youth Sports Fed­er­a­tion of Nige­ria, YSFON, made the com­men­da­tion while re­act­ing to the re­cent per­for­mances of the club.

Gawuna who per­son­ally spon­sored the team’s flight tick­ets to and fro La­gos said the ges­ture was to mo­ti­vate them to win the elu­sive cup.

He at­trib­uted the suc­cess of the club in the com­pe­ti­tion to the col­lec­tive ef­forts of Kano state gov­ern­ment, man­age­ment of the club and other stake­hold­ers in the state and hoped the tempo would be sus­tained.

While as­sur­ing the team of ad­di­tional sup­port from gov­ern­ment, the Deputy Gover­nor said plans are un­der way to camp the play­ers in prepa­ra­tion for the fi­nal match against Enugu Rangers.

On his part, the chair­man of the club Al­haji Tukur Ba­bangida thanked the state gov­ern­ment for its sup­port for the team and as­sured that they would do ev­ery­thing hu­manly pos­si­ble to win the fi­nal match.

“We owe our suc­cess so far to the un­flinch­ing sup­port from the gov­ern­ment and peo­ple of Kano State.

“In terms of sup­port, Kano Pil­lars are the best in Nige­rian foot­ball.

“We have al­ways en­joyed the sup­port of gov­er­ment and our teem­ing fans.

“The only way to re­cip­ro­cate their kind ges­ture is to win the Ai­teo Fed­er­a­tion Cup,” he said.
