DSS stops planned protest in Kano, detains two state coordinators, CNG alleges

- From Sani Ibrahim Paki, Kano

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has alleged that the Department of States Security (DSS) has ordered them not to embark on their panned protest in Kano today.

The group also said two of its state coordinators were arrested and detained for hours yesterday before they were later released by the operatives of the service.

The National Data Officer of the coalition, Dr Muhammad Bello Nawaila who confirmed this to Daily Trust Saturday in a phone conversation said those arrested were Ibrahim Umar and Ibrahim Mohammed, who are the state coordinators of the group in Yobe and Gombe states respectively.

He said, “They called us this afternoon and warned us not to embark on our planned protest which we intended to continue on Saturday and threatened to take action if we refused.

“They have also arrested and detained two of our state coordinators;

switched off their phones and only released them later in the evening,” Nawaila added.

The groups on Thursday staged a peaceful protest in 11 state capitals in the north, calling on the federal government to end the insecurity that has been affecting the region.

All efforts to get the reaction of the DSS Spokesman, Peter Afunanya last night proved abortive as he didn’t respond to calls and text messages
