Pri­vate firms take over main­te­nance of parks, gar­dens in Mus­cat gover­norate

Mus­cat Mu­nic­i­pal­ity has started pri­vatis­ing the main­te­nance of parks and land­scap­ing ar­eas in the gover­norate. The mu­nic­i­pal- ity has nearly 145 parks and gar­dens and ten ar­eas for land­scap­ing that falls un­der its De­part­ment of Land­scap­ing and Gar­den­ing.

The con­tracts awarded to pri­vate firms are for hor­ti­cul­tural needs, civil work, se­cu­rity and main­te­nance of fa­cil­i­ties in­clud­ing equip­ment in parks and gar­dens.

On how the mu­nic­i­pal­ity will ben­e­fit from this ini­tia­tive, a source said, “This move will re- sult in sav­ings. A lot of man­power is needed for the main­te­nance of parks and land­scap­ing ar­eas. With this new ar­range­ment, we will just su­per­vise the over­all work.”

The source said that park light­ing and garbage dis­posal are part of this ar­range­ment. “The move was ini­ti­ated af­ter thor­ough ex­am­i­na­tions on ev­ery as­pect.”

Ra­jib To­mar, head of Mod­ern Ir­ri­ga­tion Com­pany that is re­spon­si­ble for the main­te­nance of Naseem Gar­dens, said, “The mu­nic­i­pal­ity had in­vited ten­der. We ap­plied and got the con­tract. You can see the dif­fer­ence when you visit Naseem Gar­dens next time.”

K Raghu Prasad, head of Al Bait al Akhdar that got the con­tract for the main­te­nance of Qurm park said, “We have staff for the up­keep of the park. Mu­nic­i­pal­ity of­fi­cials visit the park from time to time to en­sure that ev­ery­thing is be­ing done as per the con­tract.”

Some of the ma­jor parks in the Mus­cat gover­norate are Qurm park, Naseem Gar­dens, Amerat Park, Kal­bouh Bay Park, Riyam Park, Wadi Kabir Park, Ghubra Lake Park, Aza­iba Beach Park, Sahwa Park, Al Khuwayr Park, Al Ilam Park and Dar­sait Park.
