OGC to start gas supply to Duqm by 2019
Muscat – The agreement for gas supply to the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZD) will become operational by 2019, Sultan al Burtmani, acting executive managing director of Oman Gas Co (OGC), said in a statement to SEZD Magazine which will be published next week.
“During the past period, several contracts and tenders for the project have been awarded including the tenders for the supply of gas pipes and extending gas pipelines from Saih Nahida to Duqm. More tenders and contracts for this vital project will be awarded during this year and will result in a qualitative leap for SEZD,” Burtmani said as reported by Oman News Agency.
He added that the contractor of the gas pipeline extension project from Saih Nahida to Duqm has recently initiated the work.
About gas quantities to be pumped to Duqm, Burtmani said the gas supply station is expected to receive about 15mn cubic metres of gas per day during the first stage as per the agreement made between the Ministry of Oil and Gas and OGC. This quantity is enough for feeding Duqm refinery, Marafiq Company and the other industries that will be set up in the SEZD.
As per its design, the station’s capacity may be increased to 25mn cubic metres per day when the need arises, depending on the SEZD’s expansion in the upcoming period. Saih Nahida plant will receive gas from BP Oman’s Khazzan field and from PDO’s Saih Nahida and Saih Rawl oilfields.
