Al Faisal in impressive form
Muscat – Talented racing teenager Al Faisal al Zubair displayed his skills in ample measure during the qualifying session for the fifth round of the prestigious Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in England on Saturday.
The 19 year old Al Faisal of FZ Racing produced competitive pace and qualified 15th for Sunday's race. The Lechner Racing Middle East team driver clocked a fastest lap of two minutes 05.789 seconds, a mere 0.947 seconds off pole position.
“I am very happy with how qualifying went this morning,” said Al Faisal. “We have showed that with our pace over the past two weekends that we can be among the top 15. I am improving all the time. The qualifying could have been even better. I was on a fast lap and was blocked in one of the corners.
“With the grid differences so small, a few tenths (of a second) could have put me in the top ten. I look forward to push harder in the race tomorrow and my aim would be a top-ten finish.”
Dennis Olsen qualified on pole position with a fastest lap of 2m:04.842s to finish the session 0.109 seconds quicker than Dylan Pereira. Series leader Michael Ammermüller qualified in third position.
Teams were permitted time to practice on the 5.898km circuit on Friday afternoon. Ammermüller had been quickest in that session with a time of 2m:05.688s from Olsen and Mattia Drudi. Al Faisal was 17th.
