Sul­tanate’s traf­fic safety high­lighted in New York

New York, US - The sul­tanate’s Per­ma­nent Rep­re­sen­ta­tive to the United Na­tions (UN) em­pha­sised the coun­try’s lead­ing role in traf­fic safety, which re­sulted in the in­clu­sion of the traf­fic safety item per­ma­nently on the agenda of the UN Gen­eral As­sem­bly in 2003.

H E Sheikh Khal­ifa bin Ali al Harthy, Oman’s Per­ma­nent Rep­re­sen­ta­tive to the UN, said dur­ing his par­tic­i­pa­tion in the Role of Traf­fic Safety in Sus­tain­able Devel­op­ment in New York that the sul­tanate’s gov­ern­ment is ex­ert­ing con­tin­u­ous ef­forts to re­duce road ac­ci­dents re­sult­ing in many tragedies.

He high­lighted the modern roads net­work im­ple­mented by the Min­istry of Trans­port and Com­mu­ni­ca­tions, as well as the ef­forts of the Royal Oman Po­lice to raise aware­ness among cit­i­zens and ex­pa­tri­ates about the im­por­tance of traf­fic safety.

He also un­der­lined the pos­i­tive re­sults achieved af­ter ef­forts made, in co­op­er­a­tion with the pri­vate sec­tor and civil so­ci­ety, that led to a de­crease in the num­ber of deaths and in­juries.
