Al Faisal finishes 15th at Silverstone
Muscat – It was yet another determined performance by Oman's Al Faisal al Zubair as the teenager finished 15th in the fifth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Silverstone GP circuit in England on Sunday.
The 15th-place finish ensured that Al Faisal picks up valuable points on his debut season with the organisers awarding him points equal to a 13th-place as two of the participating British drivers competed without being registered.
It was the second time in the season that FZ Racing's Al Faisal picked up points from a race and underlines the progress made by the Omani in such a competitive race
The Lechner Racing Middle East team driver had qualified 15th, but started the race 18th on a 32-car grid for the 13-lap race on the 5.898km circuit.
“I am very happy with the re- sult – a 15th place,” said Al Faisal.
“Yesterday, a few drivers got their lap times back so we had to start from 18th. It was a good recovery to finish 15th. Also we get points for a 13th place in the championship,” said the Omani GT3 racer.
“This is a good result on a fast and difficult track. We have high speeds and I felt that suited me a bit more. I was more comfortable on circuits where there are high-speed corners.”
Dennis Olsen led from pole position and managed to reach the chequered flag ahead of German runner-up Michael Ammermüller, who maintained his lead in the championship standings. Dylan Pereira finished third and Daniel Cammish was fourth. All but two of the 32 cars finished the race that preceded the British F1 Grand Prix.
The sixth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will be held in Budapest, Hungary on July 30.
