Seminar on food highlights economic impact on families
Salalah - A seminar on ‘ Food Consumption and Economic Impact on Family Income’ was held at Dhofar University under the patronage of H E Sheikh Salim bin Oufait al Shanfari, head of Dhofar Municipality and head of the Organising Committee of Salalah Tourism Festival. The two-day seminar, which came to an end on Wednesday, was organised by the Oman Association for Consumer Protection as part of the activities of Salalah Tourism Festival.
The seminar’s programme included a working paper titled ‘Smart Shopping and its Effect on the Consumer Healthily and Economically’, which was presented by Dr Mariam bint Abdullah al Wa’eli, director of Support Services for Specialised Medical Care in the Ministry of Health.
Dr Awadh Sha’aban, trainer, expert and consultant of Food and Agriculture at the Institute of Food Research and Technology in Egypt delivered a lecture on the basic food components and optimal food needs of the individual.
The seminar also discussed proper planning of consumption of food and health, social and economic hazards to increase consumption of food, ways to overcome the scarcity, and rise of some food commodities.
It involved some government and private entities – the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry Salalah Branch, Dhofar University, government and private colleges and Omani Women’s associations. The seminar targeted those concerned with the protection of consumers and those concerned with planning and rationalisation of consumption.
