US downs Costa Rica to reach final

Clint Dempsey's mile­stone goal sealed a 2-0 vic­tory for the US over Costa Rica on Satur­day in the semi­fi­nals of the CON­CA­CAF Gold Cup in Dal­las, Texas. In the final on Wed­nes­day, the US will face ei­ther de­fend­ing cham­pion Mex­ico or Ja­maica. Jozy Alti­dore scored in the 72nd minute while Dempsey, who came on for Paul Ar­riola in the 66th minute, curled a per­fectly struck free-kick ten min­utes later for his 57th in­ter­na­tional goal. The goal tied Lan­don Dono­van's mark for most in the his­tory of the US team. Dempsey also matched the record in his 136th ap­pear­ance for the se­nior team - 17 games faster than it took Dono­van to score his 57 in­ter­na­tional goals.
