Municipality plans to build four multi-level parking facilities in Ruwi
In a first Muscat Municipality is considering proposals to build multi-level parking facilities at four locations in Ruwi. This the municipality says will help to overcome the problem of limited parking slots in the area.
In a written reply, Shabib bin Harib bin Hamed, assistant director general in the Directorate General of Investment and Eco- nomic Development in Muscat Municipality said, “We would like to inform you that the municipality put forward a limited bid for some specialised companies to build and manage multi-storey parking facilities at four locations in Ruwi (North Commercial District) and proposals are now being analysed.”
A private automated multilevel parking facility which can accommodate as many as 170 cars has already come up in the CBD area in Ruwi.
Hamed added that the expected project duration will be determined after the completion of technical analysis of the proposals.
Appreciating the move of Muscat Municipality, a regular visitor to the CBD area said, “It will be a blessing as people have started parking in the nearby wadi due to the non-availability of slots in the busy morning hours. They do not bother about the fines.”
An office-goer in CBD said, “I have to park my car very far from the office. There are days when I have to drive around in the area for 15-20 minutes before I can find a slot to park.”
