Oman­expo to or­gan­ise sec­ond Food Safety Oman Con­fer­ence

Food safety and qual­ity are es­sen­tial com­po­nents for the pro­tec­tion of pub­lic health and eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment. From Oc­to­ber 16-17, ex­hi­bi­tions and con­fer­ence or­gan­iser Oman­expo will hold the sec­ond Food Safety Oman Con­fer­ence at the Oman Con­ven­tion and Ex­hi­bi­tion Cen­tre.

The con­fer­ence, which elicited an en­thu­si­as­tic re­sponse from in­dus­try stake­hold­ers and pro­fes­sion­als in its in­au­gu­ral edi­tion, will once again pro­vide an av­enue for the ex­change of ideas and strate­gies among pol­icy mak­ers and var­i­ous stake­hold­ers on is­sues re­lat­ing to food pol­icy and reg­u­la­tions as well as in­no­va­tive ap­proaches and tech­no­log­i­cal ad­vance­ments for the as­sur­ance of food safety and qual­ity in the sul­tanate.

The con­fer­ence pro­gramme is over­seen by an ad­vi­sory com­mit­tee com­posed of se­nior food safety ex­perts from Mus­cat Mu­nic­i­pal­ity, Min­istry of Re­gional Mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties and Wa­ter Re­sources, Khimji Ram­das, High- field Award­ing Body for Com­pli­ance (HABC), NSF In­ter­na­tional, Ex­ova, Bu­reau Ver­i­tas, City Sea­sons Ho­tel Mus­cat, Al Bus­tan Palace, a Ritz-Carl­ton Ho­tel, Al Jar­wani Hos­pi­tal­ity, Re­nais­sance Ser­vices SAOG and GWR Food Safety.

The top­ics cover cur­rent rel­e­vant is­sues as Food Safety and En­vi­ron­ment, Reg­u­la­tory En­vi­ron­ment, Pre­sent­ing Best-Prac­tice Case Stud­ies to Help and Iden­tify How to Tackle Crit­i­cal Is­sues in Food Safety, Food Han­dlers Train­ing, Food In­spec­tion, Sup­ply Chain, Lo­gis­tics and Pack­ag­ing and New Tech­nolo­gies.

The con­fer­ence will also fea­ture a brain­storm­ing session be­tween food of­fi­cers from Mus­cat Mu­nic­i­pal­ity and food safety ex­perts from the pri­vate and pub­lic sec­tor. The session is aimed at dis­cussing the key fac­tors in im­prov­ing the health sit­u­a­tion of restau­rants, de­vel­op­ing food in­spec­tion sys­tems in the coun­try and en­abling and build­ing a sus­tain­able food safety cul­ture in the sul­tanate. Am­mar Ahmed, event di­rec­tor, said, “Food Safety Con­fer­ence is the only plat­form in the coun­try for food safety spe­cial­ists to ob­tain the lat­est up­dates on re­gional and global trends in the food in­dus­try and to en­hance pro­fes­sional skills by meet­ing and hearing from sub­ject mat­ter ex­perts in food safety.”

He added, “With in­dus­try ex­perts shar­ing their knowl­edge and ex­per­tise on food safety prac­tices, this piv­otal plat­form will spear­head a food safety cul­ture in the sul­tanate. The Food Safety Con­fer­ence pro­vides an op­por­tu­nity to build a col­lab­o­ra­tion among in­dus­try ex­perts and learn about how food safety stan­dards will im­pact your busi­ness.”

Food Safety Oman Con­fer­ence will be held along­side Food and Hos­pi­tal­ity Oman Ex­hi­bi­tion; it is un­der the pa­tron­age of Mus­cat Mu­nic­i­pal­ity and is sup­ported by of­fi­cial train­ing part­ners Na­tional Hos­pi­tal­ity In­sti­tute and Food Safety Academy, Khimji Train­ing In­sti­tute.
