Chances of rain in parts of the sul­tanate: Met

There are chances of iso­lated light to mod­er­ate rain, thun­der­show­ers and cloud de­vel­op­ment over Al Ha­jar Moun­tains and in some wilay­ats of Al Wusta and Dho­far gov­er­norates on Wed­nes­day, ac­cord­ing to the Direc­torate Gen­eral of Me­te­o­rol­ogy (DGM).

The max­i­mum tem­per­a­ture in Mus­cat will re­main at 46°C.

On Tues­day, the wilay­ats of Ibri, Nizwa, Sa­ham and Suwaiq re­ceived light to mod­er­ate rain.

In its fore­cast for Wed­nes­day, DGM stated, “Along the coastal ar­eas of Sea of Oman, winds will be north­east­erly light to mod­er­ate dur­ing day be­com­ing vari­able light at night. Along the coastal ar­eas of Ara­bian Sea, winds will be south­west­erly mod­er­ate to fresh and over the rest of the sul­tanate they will be southerly to south­west­erly light to mod­er­ate.

“There will be cloudy skies along the coastal ar­eas of Dho­far gov­er­norate and ad­join­ing moun­tains with in­ter­mit­tent driz­zle. Chances of cloud ad­vec­tion over most parts of the sul­tanate and cloud de­vel­op­ment with iso­lated rain over parts of Al Ha­jar Moun­tains, Al Wusta and over the desert ar­eas of Dho­far dur­ing the af­ter­noon. There are also chances of dust ris­ing winds over the desert area of Dho­far.”

DGM stated that the sea state is ex­pected to be rough along the coastal ar­eas of Ara­bian Sea with a max­i­mum wave height of 4m and slight along rest of Oman’s coast with a max­i­mum wave height of 1m.

Mean­while, a num­ber of gov­er­norates wit­nessed light to heavy rain­fall on Sun­day. The Min­istry of Re­gional Mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties and Wa­ter Re­sources stated that the high­est rain­fall was recorded in the wilayat of Ibra in the Gov­er­norate of North Shar­qiyah at 38mm.

The wilayat of Nizwa in the Gov­er­norate of Dakhliyah recorded 26mm rain, the wilayat of Ibri in the Gov­er­norate of Dhahi­rah reg­is­tered 8mm while the wilayat of So­har in North Bati­nah recorded 7mm rain­fall.

The rain­fall re­sulted in flow of wa­ter in sev­eral wadis in­clud­ing Wadi al Ain, Wadi al Masla and Wadi Kalba in Nizwa; Wadi Si­daq in Rus­taq; Wadi al Mailah and Wadi Qafifa in the wilayat of Ibra and Wadi al Ajma, Al Sam, Al Rakka, Hayal, Wadi al Ha­jer and Al Mays in the wilayat of Ibri.
