Min­istry holds event to mark World Day to Com­bat De­ser­ti­fi­ca­tion

The Min­istry of En­vi­ron­ment and Cli­mate Af­fairs (MECA) rep­re­sented by the Direc­torate Gen­eral of Con­se­va­tion of Na­ture on Tues­day marked the World

Day to Com­bat De­ser­ti­fi­ca­tion un­der the theme, ‘Our land is our home and fu­ture’. The day falls on June 17 ev­ery year.

It was held in co­or­di­na­tion with the Cale­do­nian Col­lege of En­gi­neer­ing (CCE). The event was held un­der the aus­pices of H E Na­jeeb bin Ali al Rawas, Un­der- sec­re­tary, MECA.

Eng Sal­man bin Nasser al Akzami, DG, Direc­torate Gen­eral of Con­ser­va­tion of Na­ture, said, “The day aims to cre­ate aware­ness on de­graded lands, achiev­ing sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment and look­ing for ways to pro­tect agri­cul­tural lands.”

A the­atre group from CCE pre­sented a show on so­ci­etal and en­vi­ron­men­tal di­men­sions of de­ser­ti­fi­ca­tion. Saif bin Omar al Tobi, spe­cial­ist of na­tional re­serve gave a brief on sapling plan­ta­tion drive in the coun­try.
