Waljat College of Applied Sciences (WCAS) in academic partnership with Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi, India, started the Chemical Engineering programme in the academic year 2016-17 to meet the increasing demand of this field in Oman.

The minimum duration for the completion and award of the B E Chemical Engineering programme is four years (eight semesters) with 179 credits. The eligibility for admission is passing in class 12th, Senior Secondary School Certificate or equivalent examination with minimum 55 per cent marks in English, Mathematics, Physics and other two subjects (Chemistry/Biology/ Computer Science/ Information Practice). Classes will start in September.

The Chemical Engineering course is at the heart of many growing fields, which focuses on the design, operation, control and optimisation of chemicals and physical and biological processes.

The scope of the programme includes food processing, health care, specialty chemicals, electronic and advance materials, biotechnology, microelectronics, environment safety, polymer manufacture and industrial operations.

The infrastructure is developed to map the standard of the programme requirements with the latest equipment such as fluid flow, heat transfer, mass transfer, strength of materials and heat operations. The learning Resource Centre fulfills the students’ academic requirements. It has more than 40,000 books, periodicals, journals and e-library resources.

The college provides separate male and female off campus hostel facilities located at a 15 minute drive from the college, and these are administered and supervised by the Student Affairs Department.
