New company being formed to look after meteorology and air navigation services
Oman Aviation Group (OAG) which is being formed under the directions of the government will look after meteorology and air navigation services in the country. OAG will also look after the affairs of Oman Airports Management Company and Oman Air.
At present, the Directorate General of Air Navigation (DGAN) and Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) function under the Public
Authority for Civil Aviation
In an emailed reply to Muscat Daily, Dr Mohammed Nasser al Zaabi, CEO of PACA said, “PACA has conducted a feasibility study to separate DGAN and DGM from the core business as a regulator. The reason behind this move is to provide better services and adhere to the requirements of International Civil Aviation Organization of separating services provisions from the regulatory role.”
Dr Zaabi said that rapid technological advancements in the aviation sector enabled them to consider the separation.
“It would support service enhancement leading these services to be commercially driven in order to increase revenue and support the government’s vision towards sustainable development and diversification.”
Details of the separation process will be announced later.
“Work on the formulation of the new organisational structure is ongoing,” Dr Zaabi said.
