MSM30 falls 0.78%; vol­umes surge

Mus­cat - The bench­mark in­dex of the Mus­cat Se­cu­ri­ties Mar­ket (MSM) fell by 0.78 per cent to close at 5,024.24 points on Mon­day.

Trad­ing ac­tiv­ity im­proved from the pre­vi­ous ses­sion as turnover jumped by 174.43 per cent to RO3.04mn and vol­umes surged 131.42 per cent to 11.49mn shares.

All the sec­toral in­dices closed in red ter­ri­tory. While the Fi­nan­cial and Ser­vices in­dices fell by 0.59 per cent and 0.21 per cent, re­spec­tively; the In­dus­trial in­dex de­clined by 0.7 per cent. The MSM Shariah in­dex closed down by 0.9 per cent at 741.36 points.

Mar­ket breadth re­mained neg­a­tive as four com­pa­nies closed up, while 16 com­pa­nies closed down. The rest 11 traded stocks closed flat for the day.

The four gain­ers were Na­tional Gas (1.33 per cent), Phoenix Power (0.85 per cent), Al Jazeera Steel Prod­ucts (0.83 per cent) and Bank Mus­cat (0.54 per cent).

Top losers were Ray­sut Ce­ment (-6.64 per cent), Na­tional Bank of Oman (-2.36 per cent), Oore­doo (-2.27 per cent) and Oman Na­tional En­gi­neer­ing And In­vest­ment (-1.92 per cent).
