In­ter­na­tional ePay­ment fo­rum starts in Salalah

Salalah - The In­ter­na­tional ePay­ment Con­fer­ence opened at the Crowne Plaza Ho­tel Salalah on Tues­day un­der the pa­tron­age of H E Sheikh Khalid bin Omar bin Said al Marhoon, Min­is­ter of Civil Ser­vice. The con­fer­ence is be­ing or­gan­ised by the Mid­dle East Cen­tre for Con­sul­tan­cies and Stud­ies, in co­op­er­a­tion with the Cen­tral Bank of Oman.

The open­ing cer­e­mony of the con­fer­ence was at­tended by H E Sayyid Mo­hammed bin Sul­tan bin Hamoud al Bu­saidi, Min­is­ter of State and Gover­nor of Dho­far, Dr Rasheed bin al Safi al Hu­raibi, chair­man of the Ten­der Board, un­der­sec­re­taries, spe­cial­ists and ex­perts in the field of ePay­ment.

The con­fer­ence be­gan with dis­cus­sion ses­sions on the de­vel­op­ments and trends in the global pay­ment sys­tems and real-time gross set­tle­ment (RTGS) at the re­gional level, as well as the mo­bile pay­ment on a na­tional level, the le­gal di­men­sions of ePay­ments, and the le­gal vi­sion be­tween leg­is­la­tion and im­ple­men­ta­tion.

There was also a dis­cus­sion on con­tem­po­rary in­sights on pay­ment sys­tems, na­tional eco­nomic sys­tems, the dig­i­tal cur­rency and the his­tor­i­cal evo­lu­tion of elec­tronic pay­ment sys­tems.

The two-day con­fer­ence also tack­les many le­gal vi­sions that will raise aware­ness of the im­por­tance of ePay­ment for the suc­cess of eCom­merce and the need of Arab mar­kets.

A num­ber of ePay­ment aca­demics are tak­ing part in the con­fer­ence, which tar­gets pro­fes­sion­als from academia, banks, fi­nan­cial in­sti­tu­tions and cen­tral banks.
