Jadeja re­tains No 1 spot in Test rank­ings for bowlers

Dubai, UAE - In­dian off-spin­ner R Ash­win has re­placed Sri Lankan cap­tain Ran­gana Herath as the No 2 bowler in the lat­est ICC's Test rank­ings.

In­dian left-arm spin­ner Ravin­dra Jadeja re­tained his place a the top of the table after a re­sound­ing 304-run win over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle on Satur­day.

Ash­win, who played his 50th Test in Galle, picked four wick­ets in the match while Jadeja snared six - three in each in­nings. Herath had a medi­ocre game, re­turn­ing fig­ures of 1-159 and 0-34.

In­dian opener Shikhar Dhawan's scores of 190 and 14 have lifted the left-han­der 21 slots to 39th po­si­tion in bat­ting.

Aus­tralian skip­per Steven Smith is on top of the rank­ings while Chetesh­war Pu­jara, who is set to play his 50th Test on Thurs­day, is at No 4.

In­dia is cur­rently No 1 in the ICC's Test rank­ings and is favourite to win the on­go­ing three-match se­ries against Sri Lanka.

Mean­while, Ben Stokes has moved up to take ca­reer-best po­si­tions in both bat­ting and bowl­ing, in the ICC Test Player Rank­ings after a fine show in the third Test against South Africa at The Oval, which his side won by 239 runs on Mon­day to take a 2-1 lead in the four-match se­ries.

Stokes moved up 12 places to joint-25th po­si­tion in the rank­ings for bats­men, while also gain­ing two places to reach 19th po­si­tion in the list for bowlers after grab­bing one for 26 and two for 51.

His ef­fort also sees him over­take South Africa's Ver­non Phi­lan­der to take fifth po­si­tion in the list of all­rounders. Bangladesh’s Shakib al Hasan is on top of all­rounders’ rank­ing.
