Em­bassy plans coun­try­wide cel­e­bra­tions to mark In­dia’s 70th In­de­pen­dence Day

The Em­bassy of In­dia in Mus­cat is all set to cel­e­brate the 70th year of In­dia’s In­de­pen­dence - In­dia@70 - in cities like Mus­cat, Nizwa, Salalah, So­har and Sur, with the aim to high­light the achieve­ments as well as the chal­lenges of mod­ern In­dia.

As part of In­dia@70 cel­e­bra­tions, there will be sev­eral events such as sem­i­nars, es­say com­pe­ti­tions, paint­ing com­pe­ti­tions and cul­tural and mu­si­cal per­for­mances through­out the year. Those events will place spe­cial em­pha­sis on the im­por­tance of 70 years of In­dia’s free­dom and high­light achieve­ments of the coun­try in the past seven decades.

In­dian So­cial clubs in Oman as well as In­dian schools will be fully in­volved with the cel­e­bra­tions and will be or­gan­is­ing their own events.

Speak­ing dur­ing a press con­fer­ence at the In­dian em­bassy, H E In­dra Mani Pandey, Am­bas­sador of In­dia to Oman said, “The pur­pose of these events is to high­light to peo­ple of Oman as well as In­dian di­as­pora in Oman the im­por­tance of our 70th Na­tional Day. Oman and In­dia share a 5,000 year old bond, older than even the re­spec­tive gov­ern­ments. We share a deep re­la­tion­ship based on friend­ship, emo­tion and un­der­stand­ing. This im­por­tant mile­stone is be­ing cel­e­brated all over In­dia and the world with great en­thu­si­asm. The Gov­ern­ment of In­dia has planned a se­ries of events to high­light 70 years of In­dia’s in­de­pen­dence.”

He added that the em­bassy will be hold­ing per­for­mances by dance troupes not only in Mus­cat but also in other ma­jor cities of Oman, in­clud­ing So­har, Sur and Nizwa.

In­dian em­bassies and con­sulates all over the world have been man­dated to or­gan­ise spe­cial events to high­light the spe­cial oc­ca­sion. The In­dian Em­bassy in Mus­cat has planned to hold a spe­cial re­cep­tion on Au­gust 15 at Sher­a­ton Ho­tel Oman to cel­e­brate In­dia@70 and has in­vited prom­i­nent NonRes­i­dent In­di­ans and Peo­ple of In­dian Ori­gin, diplo­matic corps, Omani gov­ern­ment dig­ni­taries, Salalah, busi­nessper­sons, and other em­i­nent per­sons.

Two prom­i­nent dance troupes which will be per­form­ing in Oman are a Kathak dance troupe led by Di­nesh Pod­dar and an In­dian con­tem­po­rary dance troupe led by Guru Tanushree Shankar.

The Kathak dance troupe will visit Oman this month and per­form at the re­cep­tion to be hosted by em­bassy on Au­gust 15. The In­dian con­tem­po­rary dance troupe will be in Oman in Novem­ber.
