Embassy plans countrywide celebrations to mark India’s 70th Independence Day
The Embassy of India in Muscat is all set to celebrate the 70th year of India’s Independence - India@70 - in cities like Muscat, Nizwa, Salalah, Sohar and Sur, with the aim to highlight the achievements as well as the challenges of modern India.
As part of India@70 celebrations, there will be several events such as seminars, essay competitions, painting competitions and cultural and musical performances throughout the year. Those events will place special emphasis on the importance of 70 years of India’s freedom and highlight achievements of the country in the past seven decades.
Indian Social clubs in Oman as well as Indian schools will be fully involved with the celebrations and will be organising their own events.
Speaking during a press conference at the Indian embassy, H E Indra Mani Pandey, Ambassador of India to Oman said, “The purpose of these events is to highlight to people of Oman as well as Indian diaspora in Oman the importance of our 70th National Day. Oman and India share a 5,000 year old bond, older than even the respective governments. We share a deep relationship based on friendship, emotion and understanding. This important milestone is being celebrated all over India and the world with great enthusiasm. The Government of India has planned a series of events to highlight 70 years of India’s independence.”
He added that the embassy will be holding performances by dance troupes not only in Muscat but also in other major cities of Oman, including Sohar, Sur and Nizwa.
Indian embassies and consulates all over the world have been mandated to organise special events to highlight the special occasion. The Indian Embassy in Muscat has planned to hold a special reception on August 15 at Sheraton Hotel Oman to celebrate India@70 and has invited prominent NonResident Indians and People of Indian Origin, diplomatic corps, Omani government dignitaries, Salalah, businesspersons, and other eminent persons.
Two prominent dance troupes which will be performing in Oman are a Kathak dance troupe led by Dinesh Poddar and an Indian contemporary dance troupe led by Guru Tanushree Shankar.
