Al Masar­rah Hos­pi­tal holds work­shop to create aware­ness on men­tal health

Mus­cat - The Min­istry of Health (MoH), rep­re­sented by the Nurs­ing Depart­ment at Al Masar­rah Hos­pi­tal, re­cently held a work­shop ti­tled ‘Pro­mot­ing and Sup­port­ing Com­mu­nity Ed­u­ca­tion to Raise Men­tal Health Aware­ness’ un­der the pa­tron­age of H H Sayyida Basma bint Fakhri al Said.

The work­shop aimed to fa­mil­iarise the staff, men­tal health nurses and nurs­ing stu­dents with psy­cho­log­i­cal dis­or­ders.

Abeer Ahmed, se­nior nurse, Al Masar­rah Hos­pi­tal, said that the work­shop aims to dis­sem­i­nate in­for­ma­tion re­lated to psy­cho­log­i­cal dis­or­ders, drug abuse and de­vel­op­men­tal dis­abil­i­ties in ad­di­tion to im­prov­ing the com­mu­nity un­der­stand­ing of pa­tients with men­tal ill­ness.

The work­shop dis­cussed var- ious men­tal health is­sues and ser­vices avail­able in the sul­tanate in­clud­ing men­tal care pro­grammes for the el­derly, adults and chil­dren, as well as re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion pro­grammes for drug con­trol and rais­ing the aware­ness of com­mu­nity men­tal health.
